While rabies is not uncommon in wild animals, "this one is concerning because it's so aggressive," said Princeton Animal Control Officer Jim Ferry. "This one has the rage-style rabies."

On Monday, Dec. 4, at approximately 8:40 p.m. near Dillon Gym on Princeton University Campus, a university student was attacked by a raccoon with suspected rabies, according to Princeton Township.

On Tuesday, Dec. 5 at about 6 a.m., a resident on Hibben Road reported they were attacked by a raccoon that was sitting on their doormat. That resident was able to escape without injury but reported unusual behavior in the raccoon.

Ferry is working closely with Princeton University to locate and capture the raccoon.

If you spot the rabid raccoon, you are asked to call Princeton Police at 609-921-2100.
